Once you have made the decision to begin an online business there are several marketing strategies to take into consideration.  The same strategies will apply to someone simply marketing their offline business on the world wide web.

First off, you want to determine your target market.  You may have heard this term used in the past but don’t quite understand what is meant by that term.  Let me clarify; your target market is the group you are focusing most of your energy on.  This market is one that you connect with or have a service or product that will benefit them.

Once this is determined you can concentrate on the most appropriate type of marketing.  There are several ways to market on the internet.  Many may choose to purchase advertising space.  That will work for many direct sales companies however, if you are an individual with your own business, purchasing advertising may not be enough.

As mentioned in previous posts, writing is a great way to connect with your target audience.  Distributing articles to directories, as well as guest posting works well.  One of my favorite ways to market is by having teleseminars or webinars.  This is a great way to instantly connect with your market and they will connect by hearing your voice or seeing your face.

Consider the different methods that individuals digest information.  Some are visual and will enjoy reading, videos or webinars.  Some enjoy information via audio means, which means teleseminars, recordings, podcasts or blog talk radio will work for this group.  Some are more tactile which will need to actually touch the product or perhaps need to be in an environment where you are present, physically.  Items that will work for this group are reports, ebooks, as well as conferences or local meetings.

When determining the strategies you will be introducing into your marketing plan, be sure to take your target market/audience into consideration and you will be well on your way to success.
