Choosing Your Circle of Influence
As we continue to dive deeper into filling your stadium with cheering fans we need to truly focus on our circle of influence. More importantly the people we are associating with or aspiring to work with. Sometimes we will get associated with folks that may not be the particular group that is right for us. Reminds me when I was growing up and my momma telling me that I need to choose my friends wisely. Why? Because all too often we are judged by the company we keep.
With that in mind, how are you building your circle of influence? Are you truly looking for those that are acting in the manner you want to emulate? The time is now to focus on your life and your business. Anything you do in your life can affect your business and vice versa. In order to fill your stadium with adoring fans you must determine what and who you are and how you can help others.
Consider the following when choosing your circle of influence which will in turn not only empower you but will also allow you to get more done:
- Determine your strengths and weaknesses – this is a biggie when building your circle and truly accepting help or guidance. Make a list of items that you can easily do without thought or hesitation and a list of items that require more of your time, energy and may be over all draining. Once this is determined you can easily assign the more grueling tasks to others, freeing up your time to items that will enhance your life and business.
- Don’t be afraid to show and tell – in order for knowledge to be powerful, it must be put into action. To build your team, and audience as well as your circle you must be willing to share. It is important to share with others what you have found to be helpful, whether it is a service that will help them or a book that may encourage them.
- Choose wisely - we all have a choice and of course must live by our choices. However, by truly listening and researching we will find the right group that will work for us to reach our goals. If the goal is to have more time or to work more effectively, then it is a choice you must make and many times that involves letting go. Believe me, it may be difficult at first but when you do let go, you will notice that it was all that was required to truly succeed.

Great idea Mike – just make sure your posts and replies are related to what you are responding to. MUCH more effective that way!
Also – if you are building brand awareness, then your site or twitter id makes more sense.

Choosing the right people, as you said, is so important. it’s also important to associate with the people who have achieved the goals that you’re reaching for. If you’re mainly taking your advice from people who are in the same place you’re at, it’s going to be tough to make progress.
However, if you’re masterminding with people who can help pull you up to their level, you can learn so much more in a smaller amount of time.
There are a few things I am currently doing to build a mastermind group and circle of influence wisely… I have some people who are close to where I am at today with my skill set and some that are beyond where I am. Doing keyword searches on Twitter and searching through blogs in your niche are great ways to find people to add to your circle of influence. Once you find a new person that is of interest to collaborate with, contact them and verify that they are real, honest and can add value to your circle of influence. Happy networking!
