Some Effective Marketing Strategies

My goal is to share strategies and tips to help you build your business.  Nearly every successful business owner will tell you that the growth of your business greatly depends on the effectiveness of your marketing strategy.  So, here are three that are proven winners.

Joint Promotions

There is a lot to be said for collaboration. Customers are constantly looking for ways to make their business and home lives run more smoothly, and sometimes by combining your services with another business, you can help them do just that. For example, if you own a health food store, teaming up with a local fitness club to promote both businesses through discounts or specials can be a great way to increase both your potential client pools.

Discover New Niche Markets

Another great marketing strategy is to be on the lookout for new types of customers. As any business owner will tell you, keeping abreast of the evolving market can mean the difference between being what you customers want and need, and being left in the dust. Take the time to customize your marketing media for them, and make them feel like they are your one and only customer. This form of targeted advertising is a great way to grow and further establish your business.

Make Use of the Emerging Trends

One of the most effective marketing strategies for any business is to listen to the market itself. By recognizing the various emerging trends you can find ones that you can design around and work with to grow your potential client base. Quite a number of businesses took advantage of the Internet in the early days to attract new customers. By being some of the first to have an online presence, they were able to obtain customers from their competitors, and cater to those who welcomed the Internet with open arms.

Some of the above strategies are some you may have heard or read somewhere before, but many don’t take action. Don’t put off what you can do today..that’s my mantra and should be yours as well.

The Importance of Fresh Content

If you are using a blog or website for marketing purposes, fresh content is essential. How important is fresh content, you ask?

Fresh content, as the name implies is new content used by websites to provide new information, promote their business endeavors, and keep them highly ranked in the search engines. In the world of search engine optimization, or SEO, the importance of creating and publishing fresh content cannot be overstressed.

As an entrepreneur, you can create a blog, website, or create an article to promote your business. However, unless the content within those things are updated on a regular basis, the search engines and readers will start to see the blog, website, or article as stale, and contain out of date information. Therefore, even if the pertinent information about your company hasn’t changed, it is essential to provide fresh content on a regular basis. This way, your business identity and your information remains in the minds of your potential clients, and at the top of the search engine’s findings.

How Important is Relevancy?

Before you run out and start creating new content just for the sake of new content, stop and think. Another important factor of fresh content is its relevancy. Today’s search engines, as well as internet users in general are becoming more aware and savvy then ever before. If you add content that doesn’t relate to your business, or to what your clients need, about the only thing you’ll gain is disrespect from your potential customers. Therefore, it is important that your content is updated regularly with information that your client needs, or information that presents your company in a new light.

One of the most effective ways to promote your online business is fresh content. Adding content can be accomplished at a very reasonable price. It truly is an easy and cost effective way to keep you at the top of your competition.

Using Facebook for Business Promotion

Promoting your online business is essential, especially in these dynamic economic times. There are a numerous different avenues that a savvy business owner can take, and many of them include the use of social media.  We’ve touched upon one of the social networks I enjoy which is Twitter, today we discuss another. If you choose to use social media to expand your client base, another effective social media site available is Facebook.

A business owner can promote their online business with Facebook’s many business friendly features. These include such things as a profile page, groups, and marketplace. Each one should have their place in your marketing plan.

A Facebook profile page can provide a new wealth of marketing opportunities. Start by creating a profile that is simple, pleasing to the eye, and informative. Then, if any of your customers or business contacts is using Facebook, take the time to invite them to become an online friend. By doing so, you begin to grow your network, and gain exposure to all their friends.

Facebook discussion groups are another great feature for any business owner. They are a great way to reach out to people with specific interests or needs. They can be extremely active, and with your expertise and knowledge, you can quickly gain their respect, and eventually their business.

Another way to promote your business is the Marketplace. This is Facebook’s online version of free classified ads, ones viewed by millions of users’ everyday. This is a great place to promote your latest sale or new product.

As you can see, there are a number of features on Facebook that seem to be tailor made for the online business owner. With a little time, effort, and common sense, you can easily use them in any combination to help your business grow.

Growing Your Business with Email Marketing

With any business the ultimate goal is to increase your revenues, or quite simply to make an income we can survive on. Marketing is important to build your business and email marketing is a great way to improve your business as well. Individuals with online businesses use this particular method to promote their sites, services and products.

In order to make your email marketing a success, keep these points in mind:

  • Treat your clients as royalty - when you emphasize the importance of your client’s needs they will feel that you are focusing on them personally.  Your relationship will not only increase but so will the referral rate.  Your goal should be to build a long term relationship.
  • Build your list – building your list is very important for the success of your email marketing.  Obviously you must have a list in order to market via email and this list can be built in different ways.  A great way to build a list is by offering a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter.  Staying in contact with you list is a way to build a strong relationship and incorporating newsletters or promotions makes it easier.
  • Stay Positive – Email marketing is not easy but you must not get discouraged.  It is important to keep your messages to your clients, upbeat and positive and most of all informative.  Always keep in mind that folks will unsubscribe but don’t let that sway you from your ultimate goal or staying connected.
  • Keep it short and sweet – when sending email messages to your clients make them short, sweet, yet impactful. No one likes to open up their email to a long message that has no meaning and then hits them with a sales pitch.

Ultimately you will want to keep building your list and updating it frequently for your email marketing to be effective. Building a relationship with your readers,  and clients should be your goal and email marketing is a perfect way to do just that.

Are You On Track?

Another month has come and gone.. are you on track with the resolutions you made on January 1st?  Many individuals make resolutions or goals on January 1st but few make it past 3o days.  The reason behind their failure may be due to the unrealistic goals they placed upon themselves.  Perhaps the lack of motivation is another excuse.

Nonetheless, there are many excuses and you will not have results if you continue to make excuses.  Instead, determine your goal, make a plan and stick to it.  Sure, some may be more difficult than others, but don’t give up!  In order to succeed in life you must be determined and with determination comes hard work.  Perhaps you feel like you are spinning your wheels, then it is time to determine if your plans are realistic.  It’s great to dream but not all dreams come true.  I’m sorry to be the one to burst your bubble, but success comes from hard work and determination.

It is important to align yourself with individuals that you strive to be like.  If you strive to increase your business, seek out those that have the same intentions.  Mastermind groups, and joint ventures are wonderful but will only work if you are in the group that will push you forward, not keep you behind.  You can definitely do it alone, many have; but if you can find a group or some individuals that will truly help you succeed in your business then do it!  Don’t wait until tomorrow to do what you can do today.  That saying is something that rings true in my life and something that I live by on a daily basis.

So again I ask you, are you on track?  If not, evaluate, re-create, and focus.  Determination, hard work and focus will keep you on the path of success.  You can do it!

Show Them You Care

Quite often we get very involved with our business whether it’s online or offline that we neglect the ones around us.  I’m not talking about your family and friends, although they are very important, I am referring to your staff.  Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself, ‘I don’t really have a staff’ and that may be the case.  But I am not simply referring to full-time staff, but to the folks who have helped you.

If you have an online business, you may have outsourced some projects that you were not familiar with or simply did not have the time to devote to.  Although you may have paid the outsource folks, showing a sense of gratitude is always appreciated.  Many times a simple email, letting them know that you appreciate them and all they do is gratitude enough.  Perhaps you have a virtual assistant that helps you with scheduling, phone calls, emails, and more; a word of encouragement helps them get through the day and lets them know that you care.

Don’t think that you must wait until the holidays to gift those that help you in your business.  Sometimes a surprise card in the mail, yes the actual mail or a special treat delivered to their door will make a huge difference.  This practice is not new, but is one that has unfortunately been forgotten.  Take out a pad and pen and write down the names of the folks that help you daily.  They can simply be ones that give you words of encouragement or those that help you with projects and help keep your business running smoothly.  Think of ways that you can show them that you care.  As I mentioned above it can be as simple as an email, acknowledgment online, perhaps if you are both in the same social networks groups, a card, a gift card or a sweet treat.  Let your imaginations sore.

Remember they will feel more appreciated and you will feel a tremendous sense of gratitude.  Believe me, it works!

Promote Your Business With a Podcast

We’ve discussed several ways to promote your business online.  The ways we’ve discussed have been article distribution, blogging, videos and teleseminars.  Another way to successfully promote your business, product or service is by using a podcast.

Podcasts are perfect for self promotion as well as sharing information and educating.  Podcasts can be done with audio and with the popularity of videos you can incorporate a video into your podcast as well.  Technically a podcast is an online radio show that one can subscribe via RSS feed or via iTunes or by simply downloading from your existing site.

Podcasts can be recorded in advance and placed on your blogs or on blog directories.  One of the benefits of a podcast is that your listeners can download the episode to their mp3 players and listen at their leisure.

Lengths of podcasts vary depending on your topic.  Some podcasts episodes are short lasting 15 minutes and some may be as long as 1hour.  As long as you are providing information that will entice your audience your podcast will be successful.  Be creative and use your podcast to promote your services.  Some will use the podcast to promote others that may help in educating your target market, the possibilities are endless.

The podcast can also include sponsors that will pay you to promote their products.  In this scenario, you win with some cash and they win with exposure.  Consider the ease of including a podcast on your site.  The episodes can be recorded in advance and placed on your site with an easy plugin if you are using a WordPress type site.   If you don’t have a site you can still create podcast episodes and upload them to iTunes and other audio venues.

Be creative and consider adding podcasting to your marketing plan.  The more exposure you achieve in your marketing efforts the more successful you will be.  Remember folks will not go searching for you, you must make yourself accessible and podcasting is just another way to accomplish that endeavor.

You Can Be Successful at Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing is not as difficult as some may imagine.  I know what you’re thinking, but I’d like to you continue reading so you understand what is meant by that statement.  When beginning or continuing any business you must realize that it takes work.  Sure, some businesses require more work than others, but we can all agree that you must work for your success.  With that said, understand that internet marketing is not any different.  If someone tells you that you can make 6 figures in 30 days, run and don’t look back!

Internet marketing is different from an offline business but in some ways it is still the same.  It requires hard work, diligence, focus and a vivid imagination.  You must be willing to put all and every effort you can imagine to succeed but the results are worth it.

Let’s break down the word, internet marketing and notice that marketing is the main word.  Yes, internet is important but marketing is where you will find your success.  With an offline business you may market with business cards, advertisements, word of mouth, seminars, workshops and the list can go on.  The difference with internet marketing is that you can reach many, many people with your marketing efforts.  Some ways to market effectively are the following:

Article marketing – this has to be one of the easiest ways to market and the best part is that it can be ultimately free.  Sharing information that is relevant to your business is essential.  In order to market effectively with this method you must be consistent and make your articles interesting and useful.  Providing information that is relevant to your client or customer base will increase your popularity and will instantly expert status.  It is important to have your articles read, so be sure to submit to directories, and share on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to name a few.

Video marketing – one of my favorite ways to market to my audience.   Your audience can see you, hear you and connect with you instantly when you incorporate videos into your marketing plan.  Try to keep your videos short but impactful; you don’t want to bore your audience and that will happen if your videos tend to drag on and on.  Just as your articles, your videos must share pertinent information that relates to your market and business.

Once you have mastered the above simple methods you can branch out and add newsletters, teleseminars, webinars and off line meetings.  It is important to remember that as in any business, marketing involves your involvement and your persistence.  You can not merely set up a website and expect your target market to find you.  If by chance they do locate your site, be sure to have information that will attract them and keep them coming.  You can be successful at internet marketing with a little sweat and tears, all is possible.

Customer Service is a Priority

In any business whether online or brick and mortar, customer service is important. Actually it’s more than important, it is a priority.

Let’s face it without customers or clients our business will not succeed.  The service we provide to our customers/clients should be impeccable from the moment they see you or hear your voice.  Nothing is more annoying than hearing a receptionist or assistant with a voice that lacks enthusiasm or professionalism.  When considering your customer service, it must be evaluated from all angles of your business.

You may provide the best service or have the best product but if everyone on your team is not on the same page it will not be reflected.  If you have a brick and mortar business, it is important to have your employees understand the importance of a positive attitude. The attitude can be heard in the voice as well; therefore a smile should be heard in the voice.

With an online business, the attitude is still important.  The assistant should have a pleasant voice as well as a manner of approaching prospective clients and existing clients.  Everything should be of utmost professionalism.  It shouldn’t matter where you work or where your business is located, professionalism is reflected through customer service.

To be competitive in the business world and continue to have a successful business, the number one priority should be to improve customer service.  Besides the quality of the product or service, customer service will set you apart amongst the rest.

Now is the time to evaluate your business, your staff and determine if a lesson in customer service is needed.  Too often we can get complacent in our business and neglect the simple yet most important aspect of our business which is customer service.  Make the changes today that will affect your business tomorrow, don’t wait.

All Work No Play?

As you read that title you are probably asking yourself the same thing.  How is it possible to only work, work, work and not have down time?  Well, I’m here to tell you that there is no such thing.  We must, and I repeat we MUST make time for ourselves and our families.  Most importantly you must schedule ‘down-time’ for you.

One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make is the lack of scheduling time for themselves.  It is understood that you are building a business that requires many hours.  However, without down-time you will be spiraling downward very quickly.  Time is needed to let your mind relax as well as your body.  In order to successfully accomplish this incredible feat you should keep a schedule.  Yes, you’ve heard it all before but have you actually applied what you have heard?

Many times we are our own worse critics which of course is only detrimental to our health, our relationships and not to mention our business.  Consider this your pep talk and your reminder that you MUST take time to refocus, reanalyze and simply refreshen your mind.  In order to do this and be successful you must schedule the down-time as well.  As silly as it sounds we can get very occupied with our agendas and neglect to make time for the most important people in our lives.

One of the main purposes folks start their own business is for financial freedom, and success  as well as the ability to spend more time with their loved ones.  So, let’s not forget the later, our loved ones and you will indeed succeed.
